2014 / 2015 Season
Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre is producing four great shows in 2014-15:
- Singin in the Rain
You remember the plot. You love the characters. You know “the song.” It’s no less than the stage adaptation of one of the most celebrated and beloved films of all time.
1920’s Hollywood is the setting for this zany, light-hearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, when many a movie studio found itself scrambling to salvage the career of its chipmunk-voiced silent picture star.
The MGM classic has been faithfully and lovingly adapted and each unforgettable scene, song and dance, is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue, and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards make SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.
(November 7 – 23, 2014)
- Forever Plaid and The Taffetas (in Repertory)
FOREVER PLAID is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950’s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.
Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they’re not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950’s.
THE TAFFETAS is set in 1950-something, and these four singing sisters from Muncie, Indiana are making their national television debut on the Dumont Television Network’s Spotlight on Music!
THE TAFFETAS pays tribute to the sounds of The McGuire Sisters, The Fontane Sisters and The Chordettes. Opening Off-Broadway almost two years before Forever Plaid, THE TAFFETAS made nostalgia what it is today! Spend an hour and a half with Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna and their band, and remember what Sunday night television was like on your 12-inch black and white screen!
(January 30 – February 15, 2015)
- Fiddler on the Roof
Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a musical theatre tradition! Winner of 10 Tony Awards when it debuted in 1965, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with tradition in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.
Rich in historical and ethnic detail, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. With beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were A Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has the perfect mix of audience pleasing humor and heart.
